Pirates 2 Obliterates Box Office Records
Well, here we have it. Only studio estimates so far, but they are fairly reliable indicators. And the numbers are high enough that a margin of error is rather irrelevant anyway.
Single Day Box Office Record
-----------------------------
Former record holder: Star Wars III: Return of the Sith: $50,013,859
Pirates Total: $55,549,000
3 Day Weekend Box Office Record
--------------------------------------
Former record holder: Spider-Man: $114,844,116
Pirates Total: $132,028,000
Wow. While I found the movie very flawed, here's to hoping it knocks that piece of garbage two-hour long torture scene The Passion of the Christ out of the top ten of all time.
Also of note, we have yet another weekend where less than half of the top 10 have good reviews, as judged by a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The highest of the year so far is four in one week.

wow, i think this is crazy...checking w/ the box office ratings what stuck out to me is pirates has made the same amount in 3 days that mission:impossible III has made in 10 weeks.

It is absolutely insane, really.
Although we're going to see more of it... Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, the record is bound to fall a couple more times.

i think arms are stupid. i like tha villian davey jones because he knows this just like idane did in that world cup final.
Why fight with arms when your face can fight for you?
I hope to see more pirates headbutting people this upcoming weekend.
8:01 PM
Maybe they should replace the French World Cup team with Pirates?

as a dj at energy 92.7 said, "a ton of people were desperate for a movie so they watched pirates." I've heard critics pan it so badly (ok, sf chron, some tv critics).
I'm not sure i'm up for it, but maybe i'll be in a good mood or somesuch and go anyway. or wait for dvd.

I would wait for DVD. Or do as I suggested, walk in 45 minutes late. (:
